i really have no faith in these tablets working, in just to weeks

ive been given 10mg amitriptyline for depression for two weeks, i really don't think this is going to help, i have to go back to doctor in 2weeks, will i be able to notice a difference in just 2weeks,
i havea feeling my doctor might just palm me off, with out taking any notice of what i feel,
everytime i go i have to fill out a form on how im feeling so they can monitor me,  what if im going to be stuck on tablets that wont work, im scared of feeling like this forever

it will take any anti-depressant 2 wks or more to be fully noticeable.  Please give it a chance...these types of medicaitons tend to build up in your sytem before they are fully effective, which is why they have to "wean" you off.  If you still feel the meds aren't working after 4 wks, VOICE your opinion...the Dr.s are there for YOU, not the other way around...and they can't help if you don't tell them.

hi Clo, this must be a GP you are seeing and not a PDOC...10 mg amitriptyline isn't high enough to help with depression, that low a dosage is sometimes used for a sleep aid. However this is IMO and I am not a doctor.
Give it the 2 week trial but do some research on depression meds before you see your doctor again.
good luck dear.

Hi I live in the UK too.  That dosage you are on sounds very low to help with depression.  I think it was prescribed to help you sleep.

Anti depressants usually take about 4-6 weeks to feel any better.  Go back to your GP and discuss this.  Also this is a very old anti-depressant, although I know it is still prescribed for pain and sleeplessness.  My grandson was even prescribed it to stop him wetting the bed.

Talk about your depression with you GP.

hi Maddie, you are so right, its one of the oldest antiD's and one of the least effective and most side effects at higher dosages. IMO

Amitriptyline is usually given to people to help them sleep. My doc gave them to me a few years ago to help me sleep, but I stopped taking them because they made me feel really groggy in the morning.

Sounds like he may have just been throwing pills at you. Might want to consider changing doctors.

amitriptyline is also given to treat depression but at higher than 10mg doses.

I do hope you are feeling better.  That is a very old anti-depressant you have been given.  The newer ones have less side effects.  It does take a few weeks for the meds to work.  Hang on in there.  Glad you found a doctor who you could talk to.

Take care
