I take both my meds at bedtime every day faithfully for the last 6 years.I never want to be like I was at my last major episode.Suffice it to say it was really bad. These 2 meds and therapy have been a life savior for me.that and my family.I have a great quality of life.I have a good job I have held for 7 years(a record for me)
No bi polar person has to suffer. Not with the advances in meds and therapy. My therapist told bi poar was like being diabetic. It doesnt go away but it can be controled with the right meds and therapy.
Keep posting to let me know how you are.

you know, i woke up this morning and realized exactly what you just posted... by me taking more medicine its not going to fix the other side of the problem which would be what i am experiencing right now.. lol.. heck, its 3:30 in the morning and i am up doing laundry.. =-) so you take two different meds.. is there anything that will handle both sides with just one medication? probably not, i cant see why there would be because its two different issues.. do you just change the medicine when you feel a different mood occurring to do you take both daily? how long have you been on them? i think you should go back to school to be a therapist.. i enjoy talking to you and i think that everyone on here would agree... thanks for the feedback =-)

It doesnt makes sense to pu you on more anti depressant for that will lift  your mood right into a bi polar manic cycle.

I am bi polar and I take Celexa for the depression and zyprexa for the manic. They balace each other beautifully. Now I realize everyone is different but bi polars have to be treated this way.You cant treat the depression with out the treating the manic.many times bi polar diagnosis are missed because docs only see the depression side.
Go back to your doc and talk to him/her about treating the manic side too as well as the depression and keep posting.I will be here.

well see, i have bouts with being bipolar as well.. my dr diognosed me with depression while my psychologist diognosed me as bipolar... i would agree with the psych.. anyway, my original dose is 75 mg.. which helped out alot, i wouldnt have my high moods anymore or the low ones either.. i was level.. now i am having a manic spell and thats why i went back to the dr.. he said he wants to try 150 mg before he switches me because some respond to a higher dose.. my mom is on 225mg and my grandfather is on 300 mg.. so i dont know..

I would check agian with your doc because your symptoms sound more like you are on too  much effexor.I am by no means a doc but I am bi polar and your symptoms smack of the beginnings of a manic episode.
What is your original diagnosis? My oldest daughter was on effexor for a while She was a Katrina refugee and she has had all kinds of stress and depression from the experience..
Let me know how it goes for you.
