What are the most successful medications for a  genetic-predisposition for long-term major depression? What are some of the most successful strategies employed for combatting long-term depression?

The success of a medication is an individual thing.  What one has success with....another doesn't.  It's trial and error as to what will work best for us, but once we find the right one, it's well worth it!  For dealing with depression you want a good psychiatrist so the two of you can discuss the best course of treatment, he is most knowledgable with the meds and can refer you to the proper therapist.  Do your best to live your life, see friends and although you may not feel like doing things....force yourself, you will be glad you did.  Medication can make it easier to do these things.  Therapy will help determine if you have a root cause and how to deal with that so you can move on.  They haven't proven that depression is actually "genetic" so you do have a fighting chance. Therapy is very beneficial but most often medication is needed, and that's okay.  Depression is like any other medical condition that requires daily medication to control the symptoms. I hope this helps and take care!
