moving states with psych meds

My boyfriend has asked me to move in with him. Hes been away for about a year, living in Florida for work. Hes not coming back to Illinois any time soon, so he wants me to move in. I'm on psych med however, for major depressive disorder, possible bipolar NOS (its confusing..) and other issues
My mom says I cant move states, simply because I'm on medication and I may not be able to get insurance in Florida. I lost my private insurance for a while so now I'm back on Medicaid.
I need to know if ill lose my Medicaid moving from Illinois to Florida and what I can do to get insurance in Florida, if I can at all.
Is my mom right that I cant move just because I'm on psych meds?

Just a thought. Call a few pharmacys in Floida in the area which you would live. Explain that you are moving there and will they take your Medicaid. I can't imagine they wouldn't. You can also call Medicade/Medicare and ask them your questions. I would think you would only need to give them your new address. Idk.  If you can afford insurance, you can call whichever insurance company you choose and get yourself enrolled. Shop around for prices. If you use Obama Care insurance keep in mind that many doctors will not accept it. You can even line up a pscychiatrist and dr before you move. I would still make sure you get as much meds as you can by Medacaid guidelines before you move. I can't imagine why you couldn't move. People with mental illness on meds move all the time. What would a person due if their spouse had a job transfer. It does not make sense to me why you would not ever be able to move because you are on these meds. Do some research that way you will have all your bases covered. Good Luck!!

You'll have to contact someone with knowledge of Florida practice.  You can pretty much guarantee that Florida, a state governed by very conservative people for a while now, will probably have lower benefits than Illinois, and it might take a period of time to develop residency requirements.  It's something you'll have to investigate.  It shouldn't be an immediate problem, as your current docs should be able to keep your prescription current for a time, but eventually your residency will be Florida and it's not a generous state.
