postpartum depression

postpartum depression

Postpartum depression is also referred to as ‘baby blues’. It includes feelings of acute depression, irritation, dullness, anger and even thoughts about suicide. New mothers suffering from postpartum depression might also feel a complete lethargy and disinterest in the baby as well. These symptoms are accompanied by disturbances in sleep and diet patterns.

Hi
Does your wife or partner have it ? I had it bad i had weird thoughts and this anger would come out of no where like i wanted to punch someone. Very scary when your looking after a helpless little baby ! Its a very lonely and scary place to be in part of me knew i wasn't well which i am very glad
of. I remember i was living at my mum and dadsand they went out i had this overwhelming fear that someon was going to break in and i got a knife and sat on it.
I found out later that i had under active thyroid which can also cause PND.
Take care

Well, thanks for the information!  Did you have a question, or were you just sharing information

PPD requires intervention from a professional in a lot of cases, and sadly, the coined nickname "baby blues" sort of downplays the seriousness of this condition.  For some women, it can be VERY serious.  Tragically, women have taken their lives.

Another misconception is that PPD will resolve itself once the hormones related to pregnancy have normalized.  That's not always the case.  Any woman who thinks she is suffering from PPD should notify her doctor right away.

People with a history of chronic clinical depression are at much greater risk of developing PPD, too.
