The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) uses a pregnancy category system to classify the possible risks to a fetus when a specific medicine is taken during pregnancy. Pregnancy Category C is given to medicines that show side effects to the fetus in animal studies, but no human studies in pregnant women have been done. A pregnancy Category C medicine may still be given to pregnant women if the healthcare provider believes that the benefits to the pregnant woman outweigh the possible risks to the unborn child.

In animal studies, when rabbits were given Cymbalta during early pregnancy, the baby rabbits weighed less. When rats were given Cymbalta during pregnancy and breastfeeding, the baby rats weighed less and were less likely to survive. In humans, there have been reports of problems in newborn babies born to mothers who were taking medications similar to Cymbalta. These problems can be as minor as irritability or as serious as seizures or lung problems.

It is important to note that depression in the mother may also not be healthy for a baby. Therefore, Cymbalta may be given to pregnant women if the healthcare provider believes that the benefits to the pregnant woman outweigh any possible risks to the unborn child.

Duloxetine administered orally to either male or female rats prior to and throughout mating at doses up to 45 mg/kg/day (7 times the maximum recommended human dose of 60 mg/day and 4 times the human dose of 120 mg/day on a mg/m2 basis) did not alter mating or fertility.

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women; therefore, duloxetine should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

what is a type C?can you please give me some ideas on how to get pregnant? other than the obvious

Catagory C means....Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

Mabey a fertility specialist might be able to point you in the right direction, there are other ways to fertilize the egg. Did you talk to your DR about this?

no, im scared she will say that i shouldn't do it can you tell me if my tablets are for severe depression or what

Cymbalta is for depression (mild to severe) anxiety and other conditions. Why were you put on it? I think you need to take a step back for one second and think about what do you want. Are you depressed? Do you want another child? Is cymbalta working for you? Put it all together for yourself. Why are you scared to talk to the DR? Is it because you want another child? or do you fear that you will be blamned for not being able to have another child? You must do whats best for you and your family, and you should be open with your doctor so you can make the well informned choice. I know its very hard, but you seem to be looking for the answers, Right?

Namaste,

mcmcorp45 offers excellent information and advice and it is true that studies have shown that Cymbalta does note alter the reproduction process.

If this is going to be your first child and you are having difficulties, I would consult with a doctor, who may need to refer you to a specialist as mcmcorp45 mentioned. Don't forget to have both parties evaluated for a possible problem.

And if you do get pregnant and I hope you do you should know that Cymbalta had negative effects during pregnancy when given to animals. There have been no adequate studies in pregnant women. Cymbalta should be used during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the potential risks.

Cymbalta appears in the breast milk of animals. It is unknown whether the drug appears in human breast milk. Therefore, it's recommended that you avoid breastfeeding while taking Cymbalta.
