pristiq

Can pristiq cause a normal blood pressure to go up extremely high?I was taking Savella 50mgs twice daily and blood pressure went to 180/100.Stopped it and went on Pristiq 50mgs once daily.Went to Dr. and blood pressure was 179/93.Are these meds casuing this?I have always had normal blood pressure.I am obese and have family history of high blood pressure.I have taken cymbalta and quite a few years ago took effexor xr and didn't have any probelms with blood pressure.Thank you

Check with your psychiatrist and make sure.  I've had hypertension since I was 40, scared me half to death.  But I finally got in shape, lost almost 50 lbs., eat healthy, learned to not worry so much and my doctor feels I can go off my medication which I was only taking a 1/4 of for a year now.  So, if yours isn't bad maybe some life style changes will help.  Don't stress out over it, it's very controllable.

My Dr.put me on lisinopril 10mgs.He said for me to consult my Psychatrist and He doesn't think it is the Pristiq and said it is probably hypertension. But it bothers me becuase it was normal until I tried Savella and then Pristiq. It just leaves that doubt.I am having trouble accepting hypertension. Thanks for writing back to me.

Has your doctor not addressed your high BP?  I'm not sure if these medications can cause this, but either way, it can't go on this high.  With your family history, it's imperative that you act on this.  Since your BP stays within the same range, I seriously doubt it's the medication. I hope you have a psychiatrist prescribing your medications because they are most knowledgeable and will know what side effects are a result of the meds.  Take care...
