serotonin syndrome

serotonin syndrome

I am so hoping that someone, anyone will respond to my question.  Here is a list of meds I was taking, until the doctor's office told me to go off everything cold turkey.  On day 8. I was taking 100 darvocet once a day, took 900 mg of gabapentin a day, 100 mg of tramadol 3 times a day, prozac 40 mg a day, mevacor 20 mg a day, elavil 100 mg at night, 1200 mg ibropofen a day, migraine medicine (maxalt 10) 3-4 times a week.  basically I went into the e.r. where they basically were going to send me to the psych ward (which they didn't even have one), I left.  Went to the doctor that day and she pretty much denied drug interaction even though I had my list of interactions in hand.  Told my boyfriend to make a promise to take me to a psychiatrist.  Obviously I have serotonin syndrome, but nobody seems to listen.  I can tell it's affecting my kidneys now...major withdrawals symptoms, etc.  Has anyone ever had it before and it is just my imagination or should I be seeking immediate care, or do I continue my days of malaise until my 2-7 weeks is up?  please answer...desperately seeking answers...Pam

Hi,

My psychiatrist specilizes in these meds so I trust her opinion.  Im not sure
I would completely trust a general practitioner only bec they dont specialize
in the mental health field.  I know it is not good to come off of these meds cold
turkey without significant withdrawal symptons or a total relapse so I would discuss
tapering off them if you want to come off of them.  I hope you feel better soon,

best wishes,

I second that. Never allow any regular MD prescribe Psycotropic medications to you.

Prescribing of any medications for mental health should only be done by a Board Certified Psychiatrist.

MD's simply do not have the training or experience to properly prescribe these medications.

I'm no expert, but that crazy cocktail of medications that your taking is way over kill.
