Is your partner seeing a professional for the problem?  If not, this would be a good idea, as with therapy and/or medication this can be controlled.  Plus, your partner needs to get to the root of all this,  to determine what has happened for him to have these problems. The scent of perfume may have something to do with it, may not, only a professional can diagnose what is wrong.  Your support of your partner is wonderful, and the most you can do is comfort him during a panic attack and let him know that he is fine and this is the "fight or flight" feeling happening at the wrong time.  So, the best thing for him is to get busy both physically and mentally, while talking himself down.  The rush of adrenaline that comes with a panic attack needs something to work on, so just sitting and waiting for it to pass is not the way to go.  Take care.
