switching to lexapro from proac

switching to lexapro from proac

Starting tomorrow, I am going to begin the switch.
I currently take 60 mg of prozac daily.
I am going to go down to 40 the first week, then 20mg the second week in addition to 5 mg lexapro.  Then, week three and four I will take 20 mg. or prozac every other day and 10 mg lexapro.  By week five, I will be on 10 mg of lexapro with no prozac.
I am concerned.  I have been on prozac for 15 yrs and am worried about the switch.

What kinds of things do I need to be aware of and look out for?
How do I know if the decision to switch is the best one for me?
Are there any guidlines?
I'm scared.

Thanks :-)

I did a switch from 75 mg of zoloft, to 10 mg of lexapro.  It wasn't a good experience for me.. though I don't want to scare you....

I experienced heart palpitations intially with lexapro.  The switching of the higher does of zoloft to a tiny dose of lexapro made for a very miserable christmas.  Such a drastic decrease of SSRI caused me to be very depressed and agitated, and I was still withdrawing....  For me, Lexapro did nothing at all.  It did not help.

Disclaimer.. I think I was tapered off faster than you were.. so you may not have the same experience.  I also went from a higher dosage of Zoloft .. than you are doing with prozac.  I would keep in mind.. that the low dosage of lexapro, in comparison to what you are use to.. may take some time to adjust to.. until your lexapro is increased to a similar level.  Everyone experiences things differently, so who knows, you may not have the same issues...

I would look up lexapro on the internet.. and find out more about what to look for and or expect when taking it..
