taking meds

They want to put my 10year old son on wellbutrin and ratlain or risperdal. My son has never taken meds. please tell me if this will be ok. I dont want him on meds for too long just temp to get him help

the 1st 2 have been proven in children well but im highly cautious about risperdal, its primary "on label" usage is to treat schizophrenia and therefore has heavy mental liability. It also has a heavy renal and hepatic liability. The pediatric clinical trials for it were only done for 8 weeks so long term effects have not been studied. Its also been tested for Bipolar Mania, and Autistic Disorder for short term use only. Its side effect profile makes it look very unattractive for me, but im also very conservative when it comes to drugging children. It does have hormonal liability so using it on a developing child could have unintended effects with development.
It is a mild atagonist of testosterone so it can have especially bad effects on male children entering puberty.

I encourage you to look up the other drugs too and view their effects, and make an informed decision about drugging your child based on the severity of his problems.
