trazodone prn for insomnia?

by cruble, Oct 23, 2007 03:56PM
I also posted this on the anxiety forum.  My PCP recently prescribed trazodone prn for insomnia.  A friend who is a psychiatric nurse told me that this is never a prn medication.  Can someone respond to me before I speak with my PCP?  I'm not sure what to to do.  THank you.

I have sleep disorder and I have trazadone.  Only thing that's helped me sleep soundly and through the night.

It worked for me and I always took it around bedtime, he had me aking it a few different times a day to build it up so I would sleep when the time came, but I was a zombie in the morning, bumping off walls and such. But my dose was quite high. It was D/C'd

trazodone is amazing for sleep.  one of the side effects is drowsiness i believe.  my doctor specifically said to take it at night.

trazodone (and remeron) give me the drowsiness to get to sleep, but both had to be discontinued with me because they also caused my to have severe RLS (restless leg syndrome)

I took trazodone for sleep and it worked ok, valium works better.  When I took Remeron, it made me have terrible dreams, like bloody horror film dreams and I had discontinue it.  It was a surprise because it was a small dosage too.  I have heard others say trazodone worked well for them as well.  Hope that helps.
