welbutrin blues

by CassieKoren, Jan 08, 2009 01:27AM
I have been on Wellbutrin for about a week now and still feel the same and am not motivated at all to get up and DO ANYTHING (which really complicates things when you are trying to loose some pounds).  Reading others questions and comments about this drug and how they had to back off it a little is making me really want to experience that feeling just for one day.  How long does it take to start feeling better?   Or am I being a little impatient?

Don't feel as though you are the only one that feels this way because you are not

It can take anywhere from two to six weeks for you to feel better, so hang in there.

I agree with Bob, I wouldn't expect anything for at least 3 weeks at the earliest, especially if this is your first med. I would also suggest getting some talk therapy as well, at the least you will learn coping mechanisms. Sometimes, depression is caused by multiple things, like chemical imbalance, but social issues, negative self talk, anxiety, a whole myriad of things. Meds alone are not the cure, but can help you get out of the fog so you can deal with possible issues.  I think you already realize it will take patience

Welbutrin can take several week sto start working. In my case it did nothing to help, but others say they have good results with it.

these meds take time to build up to their most effective levels...  you need to give it a few weeks (at least three) before you have your doctor either increase or try a different drug.  as far as the apathy goes, i completely understand.....  i've been in situations before where I would just call out of work, because I just didn't even have the energy to move out of the bed.... it's a tough, tough place to be in, but one thing that you need to do, is just move.... just do it... with my last bout of apathy (i call it this for lack of better word), i forced myself to go outside and walk for a few minutes... it wasn't a lot, but it helped break the cycle.... take care...

Everyone is right here....most of the Depression meds are like starting a car.....they take a while to warm up until the work. Give it a few weeks. Also, you didn't say what dose you were on. If it's the low dose(I think 75mg?), after a week or so you may want to ask your doc to bump it up to the 150mg's. Out of all the Anti-Depressant meds I had, this was the easiest to go on then go off. IMP, it's one of the better ones so hang in there.
