wellbutrin XL and outburst

My husband has always stressed over small stuff and had a hard time keeping his temper but nothing I couldn't live with.
Two months ago he was put on Wellbutin XL 300 mg and has had
2-3 scary temper outburst that were worse than ever before and we are separated now because of it. Could the Wellbutrin have made the outburst harder for him to control  his anger and be contribting to
his bad behavior. The hardest part to understand is afterwards he remembers the whole incident
totally wrong, and acts like he really thinks he was in control. I  always wonder if its denial or trouble
remembering when he is that stressed.

I have to point it out though, that some SSRI/SNRI's do not work well with those who have a mood disorders, including outbursts of angerand anxiety . Going into an uncontrollable or  long lasting rage and blackouts is not depression or simple anger but an indicator of something else.

. These are Mood Disorders that can be treated well, once diagnosis has been made. There are many other treatment options then Wellbutrin, as a mood stablizer. If you are having any issues with anger I highly recomment seeking out a psychiatrist. It's a miserable and sometimes dangerous way to be, as well it can isolate you from your loved ones. Though if someone is in immediate danger from a spouse's outbursts, call 911, rage from whatever source if it threatens your well being, is not to be taken lightly.

I started this medication, Wellbutrin's generic version called buprion about 18 months ago. I have managed ruin a 18 year relationship with my best friend and also ruined my relationship with my girlfriend of 7 months due to black outs and anger episodes.  This medication should be taken off of the shelves. I am a driven caring friendly loving person who has experienced something called limbic seizures from this medication. Violent outburst with zero memory. I am college educated andba business owner. In fact I recruit physicians for a living. But my life outside of work has been destroyed because of Wellbutrin. I reached out to a top neuropsych to find out that i have been having seizures on the Wellbutrin. I am not a happy person at the moment because of the damage that has been done. Do the research and READ the side effects!!'

Was 300mg his starting dose? I was put on 150mg to start and even that left me feeling edgy, jumpy, unable to sleep or eat much for the first few weeks. The 2 times I tried to go up to 300mg I was about to jump out of my skin. It has different effects on different people as most meds do. It can make people pretty amped and if he is high strung to begin with it could certainly be making things worse. I had to get put on a benzodiazapem to counteract the effect of the Wellbutrin because I was naturally high strung and had issues with anxiety and that seemed to help me, but I don't recommend anything for anyone without consulting their doctor first! Do some more research on this site, you'll find a lot of information about the meds, and peoples experiences with them and hopefully it will help you get a better understanding of what may be going on. I spoke too soon, so please forgive my previous comments.  I surfed the site a bit more and I see there's one question for each topic, then your answer, then comments.  I apologize.  I do feel that you should reply to some of the comments.  Even if they aren't questions  some of the people seem to be experiencing things that only a knowledgeable doctor's advice would help.

How come you aren't responding to these people's comments?  Isn't this a website hosted by Doctors that give advice or am I mistaken?  Mostly what I see here are questions from concerned patients that go unanswered.  I think a Doctor's response is in order for the people that take Wellbutrin XL and are experiencing Anger Management issues.

Hmm...I am having similar episodes on Wellbutrin XL 300mg.  I've been on this for maybe 2 months.  I've had two anger outburst-type things, but they have lasted for days and usually present as extreme irritability and then anything can throw me over the edge.  I start taking 150mg tomorrow...

Sorry, I don't have an answer...
