I took Lexapro for about 2 years with very good results. I didn't have any panic attacks at all when I was on it, and no depression. The side-effects were very mild for me (compared to the side-effects I had with Prozac), and they only lasted a week or two. I stopped the Lexapro about 6 months ago because I really felt like I didn't need it. Then about 5 weeks ago I had a nervous breakdown (depression and panic), so I'm back on the Lexapro. I noticed a difference in 2-3 weeks, but the full effect can take up to 3 months to be felt. From my own experience, I would recommend Lexapro (or Celexa - they are essentially the same drug).

Hi. I have taken lexapro... years ago, but I remember that it works. Ask your doctor about Celexa. It is what I take and it is Lexapro's cousin without as many side effects. It has worked great for me! Stay clear of Paxil... extreme weight gain. Effexor made me suicidal and I started cutting myself. I know everyone reacts differently but these are common side effects for these drugs that I have mentioned. Don't just listen to your doctor, you need to do the research also and hear from people that have actually been on the drug. Usually the doctor doesn't know firsthand how the side effects will effect you because he hasn't personally been on it. Also Paxil is terrible if you want to stop taking it. I ended up in the hospital because I didn't whean off it slow enough. Good luck and if you have any questions, im very experienced in this area. : )
