There are ways to get the med. You can phone your old doc and have him phone in an Rx. You can go to a community health clinic, if such things exist in Texas. There are ways. These meds should be discontinued by tapering, not cold turkey. Everyone has a somewhat different experience, but some do get some pretty severe reactions, though thankfully they're rare. The advice to go cold turkey and it will all be better in a month is probably true, but it is a risk and why take it? Some people are in a hurry, but there's no need to be. It also sounds like you don't really want to come off the med, so I would get out there and investigate how to get it if you still want to be on it. When I lost health insurance for five years my old psychiatrist continued to call in my refills for me until I got new insurance finally, so I know this does happen.
It can last from 2 weeks to 1 month and maybe a little more for some person depending on your brain chemistry and how long you have been on the medication. Don't worry the withdrawal effects will eventually go away. My cold turkey withdrawal from Cymbalta lasted for 1 month untill I had no more symptoms at all and I've been on it for like 5-6 months... Anyway everyone is different.
Best of luck,
