I am a 46 year old womanWomen's way and have been suffering from depression/anxiety for 11 years. Over the years, I have seen many psychiatrists who have prescribed almost all anti-depressants including prozacProzac Prozac weekly, lexapro, cymbaltaCymbalta, and zoloft. For the last 4 years I have been taking WellbutrinWellbutrin Wellbutrin sr Wellbutrin xl. In June of 2008, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through chemo/radiation until Dec. 08. In January, I totally crashed and could barely get out of bed. I saw an endocrinologist who diagnosed me with adrenal fatigue and started me on supplements. Since then my depression seems to have worsened. My cognitive functioning and memory is so bad that I have had to take a leave from work. My biggest struggle is thinking clearly; I feel like I am 'out of it' most of the time. I would so appreciate any advice or suggestions!
I know the feeling. I think it takes a while for the body to get over the assault on it.
I think the depression results from feeling defeated all those days when your energy levels are low and you struggle to cope.
You might like to ask your doctor if you're anemic. After radiation I crashed, struggled with work -especially in the cold, couldn't concentrate, etc. My GP tested for anemia and I have since been on iron supplements. Besides the fatigue (which I just assumed was from treatment and anxiety), concentration and memory were my main symptoms. Thinking was a huge problem too.
My two suggestions would be to talk to your doctor (about anemia and other possible causes) and to access psychotherapy. Not just to discuss breast stuff but to work through issues pertaining to the anxiety and depression.
