8 yr old has discoloring of eye after 3.5 months???

After an accidental 8 ft. fall this past summer, my son suffered some head trauma. As a result, one of the things he ended up with was much swelling and extreme discoloration on the left side of his head and around his left eye. An ophthalmologist as well as Cat Scans showed no ocular breaks or skull fractures and the initial swelling and bruising of the eye/face/skin went away after about 4 weeks.  However, it has not been 3 1/2 months and he still has darkness underneath his eye.  Just wondering how long he is going to have this dark discoloration 'black eye' under his eye - is it permanent- was there more damage than originally thought? I do plan on double-checking with his neuro-trauma team, but it seems odd that everything has healed for the most part...except for this.???  He did suffer traumatic brain injury and some ocular disturbances from the fall/hit on the head; but we were assured there were no fractures.  I know it could be possible that just the severity of the impact alone - because it was a very serious fall - could make it longer for his body to heal than normal...just seems like 3 1/2 months is a very long time for a 'black eye' to heal...but I guess it's not necessarily your typical black eye either...
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!
