Acanthosis Nigricans and Eczema

by Lisa2003, Sep 05, 2008 09:00AM
Hello, I have been taking Minocycline for a few months now. I haven't really noticed any differences in my acne but have developed a couple of worrying skin disorders. I noticed a dark brown patch on the back of my neck a few weeks ago and after a little research came to the conclusion it is probably Acanthosis Nigricans. I am not particularly overweight but do need to lose a few pounds I guess and I DID eat a lot of sugar. As soon as I found out it could be due to high blood sugar levels I cut down my sugar intake and stopped eating chocolate altogether. Also, for several years I've had a slight redness to the inside of my left elbow but never let it bother me. Recently it has gotten redder and a little dry. I have never had eczema before and generally have quite oily skin so when my right inside elbow started reddening a week or so ago I got worried. I have been putting E45 on the patches. How possible is it that the Minocycline is causing these skin disorders? Is cutting down my sugar going to get rid of the Acanthosis Nigricans? And is over-the-counter eczema creams going to cure me of the redness on my inner elbows?

Please don't just tell me to go to my doctor because unfortunately I am also Agoraphobic and can only manage to see my GP maybe twice a year when very necessary. I do take a lot of medication for my anxiety and panic attacks but reading the possible side-effects leaflet nothing is mentioned about skin problems- and that's a whole other issue in itself.

Thank you for any help in advance.
