You guys are the greatest. I appreciate all the information so much you have no ideal. Again, Thank you and I will keep you posted.
Hello,
From the symptoms it sounds like GERD(Gastroesophageal reflux disease). It is usually after eating a heavy fatty meal and sedantry lifestyle. It can also be caused by drinking too much alcohol, prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin or ibuprofen, or infection with bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).
Try raising the head of your bed about four inches with blocks. It also might help to avoid eating or drinking for two hours before you lie down. To help control the stomach acid, one should not drink alcohol or drinks with caffeine in them, or eat chocolate or spicy or greasy foods .
Also give him some OTC antacid like Mylanta. He can also take zantac(ranitidine)or prilosec(omeprazole). These will help. Also ask him to keep his fluid electrolyte balance optimum by drinking lots of fluids.
In case the symptoms persist then peptic ulcer disease has to be probed.Pls consult a gastroenterologist in that case.
I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted on how your grandfather is doing or if you have any additional doubts.Warm regards.
Also known as waterbrash.See,the covering of our stomach is built to resist acid but not the oesophgus which connects it from mouth to stomach. If the connecting valve is weak acid will come and regurgitate causing discomfort, burning, pain etc.Ask him not to lie down immedietly after food.A course of antacids will help, and frequent small bland feeds. If persists get a cardiogram just to make sure it is nothing other.
