Allergic Reaction

I used some lotion on my hands and since there was excess, I rubbed it on my throat & face.  A couple hours later my son asked what was wrong with my face.  When I felt and looked at it in the mirror, there were raised red patches all over the throat and face.  My eyes are puffy from the swelling.  48 hours later still red not itching as badly & there are many dry patches along the areas where the welting occurred.  I didn't have any benedryl so I used some 2mg prednisone prescribed for a poison oak break out.  First, did I do the wrong thing by using the medication? Second, how long does it normally take for the skin to recover from something like this?  Thank you for any help you may give!

If you are allergic to poision oak you could well be allergic to urushiol (the allergen) in other forms like for example mangoes, cashews etc applied in some form, like face pack, cremes etc.
It was fair that you started medication but it should be given in proper dose and tapered.
Do consult your doc.Best wishes.

First you called it medication and then you called it medication.  You should name the product and a link to a list of the ingredients if you want anybody to help.

If it was hand lotion, I can't use hand lotion on my face.  I would break out.
