Alleviating hyperpigmentation in the darker skin tone

by Student08, Jun 20, 2008 10:47AM
I recently used an over the counter cleansing product that did a great job at clearing some of my pimples. However, the skin on my nose had some sort of reaction because my skin peeled and I had an open cut in the middle of my face. It has since healed, but now I have a very discolored mark on my nose that is many shades darker than my actual skin tone. I am African American, and I have heard that using hydroquinone products to lighten skin discoloration causes a rebound effect and darkens the skin even more. I would like to know what I can safely use to return my skin back to its original skin tone.

Hi,

Do you have any other associated symptoms of itching, rash , etc.

It would not be advisable to scrub the area too hard as this would irritate the skin. You should try to avoid sweat collection in the areas, keep the areas clean, maintain good personal hygiene, wear lose comfortable clothes. Apply calamine lotion at the sites.

Consult a skin specialist for your complaints and discuss whether a demyleininzing agent would help in your case. You could also discuss about microdermabrasion and whether it would help in your case.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Post us about what your doctor advises.

Regards.

No, I don't have any other symptoms other than the hyperpigmentation. Every one who sees the discoloration says it looks like a burn. It did not feel like a burn when the cut first occurred, but I've been told that it may have been a reaction to the chemicals of the facial cleanser product. I would like to know what I can do to return my skin back to its natural brown skin tone. I have yet to come across a product that works effectively on darker skin tone, so I'd like to know what I can use.
