Apperance of Red Bump

by WIBadger, May 15, 2003 12:00AM
Dr Rockoff. If you could answer this/these questions it would put my mind at rest. In regards to the painful red bump I described earlier on my thigh. You state that herpes presents itself as a cluster of blisters not a single red bump. Again, I never noticed a blister or blisters,  but then againn I did lance the bump after the second day. On the forth day the bump developed a slightly sunken grey colored center with a dark (pin size dot in the center). The outer edges remained red/pink. What scares me is an illustration a viewed of a healing herpes lesion that looked somewhat similiar. Yes, I know I have been over analizing this but it scares the hell out of me. Could the bacterial folloculitis you suspected along with the picking and proding I did cause a similiar looking lesion? On the seventh day the lesion developed a pin head size white scabe with a dark pin hole spot in the middle. The outer edges of the bump still remain red and never scabed over. It's been 11 days now and the bump/lesion is samller, lighter, but still appears red and shiny with a small brown pin hole size scab in the middle (no pain). I know you probably think I'm freaking out but if you could just provide me with your medical opinion in regards to its appearance it would be greatly appreciated. I've had folliculitis before but never a painful bump like this. Thank you for your time and the service you provide. I've meet a girl I truly care for and would like to put my mind at rest. Thanks again.

1. Again, I never noticed a blister or blisters, but then again I did lance the bump after the second day.

Response:  If you lance a clsuter of blisters, it doesn't make them look like a bump.

2. On the fourth day the bump developed a slightly sunken grey colored center with a dark (pin size dot in the center).

Response:  A bump with a colored center is not a blister or collection of them.

3. Could the bacterial folloculitis you suspected along with the picking and prodding I did cause a similiar looking lesion?

Response: You bet it could.  That's exact;y what it would look like.

4. I've meet a girl I truly care for and would like to put my mind at rest.

Response:  It should be at rest.  Good luck.

5. Thanks again.

You're welcome!

Thank you for your response. I don't mean to beat this to death as I know you are only working with the info I provide. The  thing that is making me second guess all of this is the  appearance of this mosquito bump after 14 days of possible exposure, the pain associated with it, and the irretation throughout my groin area for 5 days. When I looked at pictures of the "primary herpes lesion" it looks like a raised ring with a slightly sunken middle. " My bump" afer 5 days had similiar charcteristics. The edges of the 3/16" bump remained red, like a ring around the 1/8" slightly sunken grey matter. On the fifth day I peeled off this 1/8" skin patch thinking puss or fluid was underneath but their was none. The center was white with this pin hole in the middle (not a hair). Does this sound like a single herpes lesion? I also had non-painful folliculitis where I shaved my pubic hair. Can herpes cause folliculitis during an outbreak? I appreciate your patience with me. I will not send anymore comments. Thank you.

Nope, herpes causes blisters, not folliculitis.  I think you don't have herpes, and don't really hav anything else to add.

I am a 21 year old male who has not had alot of sexual partners but am experiencing something that is really bothering me. I sometimes catch one or two pimple looking bumps that i end up popping with a lil puss and blood coming out. A small lesion appears then in a day or two it is healed. There really is no pain when this happens but if i squeeze these pimple looking bumps on my GENITALS then it hurts a little. I am wondering what this is because i have saw a doctor and they are pointing to a std(syphillis or herpes)but information i read on the internet and books describe symptoms or signs of herpes as groups of blisters or large single blisters on the penis. The pimples do not look anything like blisters or are very painful at all but i've noticed that one has caused a little spot of discoloration on the side of penis that is noticable but very small. I have no symptoms of fever or painful urination or painful anything. This has been going on for about 2 months now. Do you think you can give me a little information on this matter. If you need more info i will try my best to explain this better. Thank you for takin gthe time to read and help people.  jj

i am writing again only to give a lil more deatil on my situation. The pimples appear on the skin of my penis since i am not circumised. That is where they appear. Again are pimples noraml on the genitals and if so what can i do to prevent them? I am taking std's tests on the 16 of july to determine if this problem is a std. This will be the second series of tests in only 2 months since i already had tests done that came back negative. But this is to be really sure. Again thank you very much.

I know you must be like this guy is nuts but one more thing doc. I recently observed pictures of "sebaceous prominenceand that picture of this infecting or disorder looked exactly like what i have. I had a bad habit of picking the lil pimples but stopped recently b/c i picked on 2 diagonally across from each other and they" got irritated and got bigger and popped. If u think this is "sebaceous prominence" or it is , is there anything i can to get rid of these little tiny pimples on my genital skin? I aplogize if i typed too much but i am very curious and concerned, thank you again doc and keep up the good work.
