Armpit Rash

by Neravar, Nov 06, 2009 01:48PM
I guess its a fungus? Its a red rash, it does NOT itch, it only stings when I move my arm or make contact with it. It also stinks, it doesnt smell like BO, but something else, it smells even after ive taken a shower. I take showers regularly I dont shave my armpits. It seems to hurt more when moist than dry but I cant be sure. Its "gone away" several times now and came back normally within less than a week. Its normally not large and only isolated to both armpits. During a period of irritation the skin, when moist, is "mushy"? there are a couple of places where I can run a cloth across the rash and skin will come off. Its been happening for a few months. I tried a fungal cream and it seemed to work but it could have been timing and the rash might have already been receding, any info would be appreciated

To: Neravar,
Hello,
The symptoms are suggestive of intertrigo. An intertrigo is an inflammation (rash) of the body folds. It most commonly occurs due to bacterial, viral or fungal infection. An intertrigo usually appears red and raw-looking, and may also itch, ooze, and be sore.

Please keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical zinc oxide cream like Sudocrem, Desitin are very helpful(apply with a paper towel and not directly with hands).Application of mild steroid cream like dermacort also helps. For the itching please take some over the counter antihistaminic like Benadryl or Claritin. In case the symptoms persist then antifungals may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case.
I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing. Kind regards.
