Armpit skin infection- swollen lymph nodes

by lolowest, Feb 02, 2009 11:46PM
This is the third time that I have developed a skin infection, probably from shaving, which has caused the lymph nodes in my armpit to swell. This is the second time that I have been put on antibiotics to clear it up, only I am not getting any better. It is extremely painful and make doing even the simplest things very difficult. What could it be? Why am I not getting better? Why does this infection reoccur?

Hi,

An underarm lump can be most probably due to an infective condition. You could have it due to shaving or waxing or using a deodarant. Underarm lump can be caused by viral infection, allergic reaction, a swollen lymph node or a benign tumor like lipoma.

Wait for a few days and see if the lump resolves. If it persists consult your physician for a clinical evaluation.

Try some OTC painkillers for a few days. Try some warm compresses and wear lose comfortable cotton clothes.

Let us know if you need any other information and post us on how you are doing.

Regards.

Today is the first day that the lump has reduced in size, and it is much less painful. This is a relief since I was nearing the end of my antibiotics. All I can do it follow the doctors instructions and hope it doesn't come back.

Hi,

Glad the post was of some help to you.

You need to wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. Try some OTC painkillers for a few days. Try some warm compresses and wear lose comfortable cotton clothes.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you need any other information.

Post us about what your doctor advises.

Regards.

Hi,

I have a small bump under my skin between my left breast and armpit. It sends random sharp pain up to my neck and about to mid chest. I went to the Dr. and she said it was a skin infection. I've had a skin infection before and know this is not the symptom. It is not visible but very painful at random times. Do you know what it might be?

I've had that skin condition before, I've seem a dermatologue and an other doctor that treats skin diseases. They even did a small operation on it an all it does is more scar tissue in the area. They had a name for it but I cant remember. It was worse for me in the summer with the sweating and it got has big as a golf ball.(disgusting)
The dermatologue recommended to stop using any kind of antiperspirant or deodorant,
and wash the area after a sweat. It made a big difference but I still experience it (in a small version) once in a while. I started "skin laser treatment" 3 months ago and it seems to help as well as in the bikini area. Hope it help you !
