Atrophy from cortisoneinjection

Atrophy from cortisoneinjection

Dear Dr. Rockoff,

I had cortisone injected into a small cyst on my face two months ago. About a month later the skin around the injection caved in. It now looks like a giant thumb print in my face, and it doesn't appear to be improving. My doctor believes the area will fill in eventually, but I am very upset and depressed. My question is- will a collagen injection help correct this problem or would it be damaging to the healing process? Thank you.

Respectfully,
Rebecca

Indents from cortisone do indeed fill in, though it takes a while--perhaps 6 months.  Collagen might help a bit, but the effect of collagen, though not damaging, is temporary, and time is on your side anyway.

Best.
