BIRTHMARK HELP

Hi
My name is Angie and I am 17 years old. I was born with a birth mark on the left side of my left thigh. It's dark brown, flat, oval shaped, larger than a quarter, symmetrical, and not too much of a border irregularity. The mark has tiny light colored dots on it. They aren't noticeable from far away but from close up they are. The hair that grows from it is thick but I shave it. Ever since I was very young, this birth mark has left me feeling a little self-conscious when in shorts or a bathing suit. So here are my questions....
1.What are dots?
2.Does this seem malignant?
3. Is removal possible?
4.Is there any way to lighten the color or shrink the mark so it's not as large and noticeable?
5.Will shaving or waxing harm the birthmark in any way?
