Baby's rash

My 9 month old grand daughter has a rash on her cheeks.  She first had several small round circles of bumps on her arms, thighs, calves, and ankles.  She didn't get them on her tummy, chest or back.   She will still get these and they are always iseem to be in a circle.   In the last 3 months she has had a raised ugly rash on her cheeks.  It looks so painful.  It almost looks like she has been burned.  Her pediatrician has given her a prescription for Nystatin.  It didn't help.  The dr. also told my daughter to use Hydrocortisone.  That seems to help a little.  Then it comes back.  It will look the same again,  My daughter puts the Hydrocortisone on and then covers it with a product like chapstick, but it is for baby cheeks.  It holds in the moisture.  Now her skin is turning yellowy orange, and her nose, cheeks and her feet seem to be turning the yellowy orange too.  Pediatrician doesn't seem too concerned, but we are.  We are woried about the skin color.  Want to know if the baby formula with iron can cause this.  Can she be getting an overload of iron.  When her mother (my daughter) was first born she came home frome the hospital with a diaper rash that got worse and she was crying and the rash was even bleeding.  I tried everything and kept asking the dr's if it could be the iron.  After her first 13 weeks of life with this horrible rash I took her off the formula and the rash cleared up in a day and a half.  So my question is could this be the iron too????   Anybody out there that has gone through this same thing?????   please help.  thank you.  I forgot to mention that the baby's rash ( my grand daughter's) has even cracked, bleed and oosed.  Thanks again.

My daughter did take her to a dermatologist yesterday.  She said it was a waste of her time and money.  The dr never even touched Amber, he just sat there and said it was eczema.  My daughter asked about her skin and he said "Oh I wouldn't know about the color of her skin".  He didn't offer any other meds or creams.  Just told her that if she used the Hydrocortiscone  to often that it would thin her skin.  You mentioned bronze skin.  That is exactually the color.  What is systemic feature?  My daughter feels that eczema is the catch all for babies.   Thank you.

Hello,
Iron overload in infants presents with systemic feature mostly. If in any case, the skin symptoms appear then it appears as gray or bronze skin rather than a yellow skin.In my opinion you should consult a dermatologist/pediatric dermatologist and get her evaluated for eczema and fungal infections.A biopsy of the skin scrapings will help in confirming the diagnosis. There is no fun trying medicines at such a young age.A confirmation of diagnosis has to be done first for which I would sincerely suggest a dermatologist’s examination.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your granddaughter is doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.

Also, keep the rash on her cheeks moisturized as much as possible! Use Eucerine Cream or any high moisture lotion, because when it dries out and starts cracking it's easy for bacteria and other bad things to enter in there causing it to possibly get worse and infected!

The next time your Daughter takes your Grand Daughter to the Dr. I would go with her and demand that they do a blood draw and check her iron content in her blood, that's all they have to do to see if she is getting to much Iron! and if that's not the case...my Son had the same problems with the cheeks. turns out he had Eczema, and still does, I actually just posted a post on the severity of it because I am worried! So treat it right now as if it were Eczema until you can get her into the Dr. Also yellowing of the skin usually means there is something going on with the liver!!!!! So if they do not find anything wrong with her blood have them check her liver if she continues to have yellowy skin!
