Balanitis= Circumcision?

I am desperate to get a solid answer on the following:
My 5 year old uncircumcised son has had one kidney infection, multiple UTI's, 5 cases of balanitis, and phimosis that responded to a 6 week topical steroid cream. He has been health-compromised since birth, and off and on antibiotics and steroids for the majority of his little life. At this point, I am seriously considering circumcision in the desperate hopes that it would lessen or eliminate completely his chances of further cases of balanitis and/or UTI's. My husband is very opposed to circumcision, even with our son's challenged urological history. His immune system is clearly ridden with yeast and fungi from all of the antibiotics, which we are doing our best through dietary changes and a naturpath's doctor's involvement....
I wish I had the crystal ball....
I don't want to see him suffer any more and at the same time I fear this procedure at his age, the general anesthesia, how to explain to him what will happen, and why his foreskin is gone...I don't want any regrets, either way.... easier sad than done, I know..
