Bald spot size of dime with red dot in middle

the other day i scratched my head and noticed a bald spot on the back of it. After looking closely at it with a mirror, I noticed that the bald spot had a red dot in the middle of it. This was the first time I had noticed it. it happened to me about 8 years ago also, but there were 2 spots and they were quite a bit larger and without a dot. that was caused by a bug bite, would this be the same thing, if it isn't do you have any ideas on what it may be?

From the symptoms tinea capitis needs to be ruled out. Ringworm is a fungal skin infection that occurs on the face, body or scalp. The symptoms of Ringworm or Tinea Capitis include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss and tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck.  Because of the scratching that is involved with the condition it can become secondarily infected with a bacterial infection.
