Basal Cell Carcinoma

by JT37, Jun 19, 2009 05:23PM
Dear Doctor - 2 weeks ago I had a mole removed from my back and it turned out to be a basal cell carcinoma.  My Dermatologist just told me to come back in 6 weeks after the scar heals and he should be able to tell from the scarring if he needs to do more work or not.  Is this the normal procedure?

He also told me not to worry too much since this type of cancer "doesn't travel" to other parts of the body.  But I did some research and it looks like in some rare cases they could metastasize, should I ask him to follow up to make sure that didn't happen (check lymph nodes)?

Thank you!

JT
