. It was after the matches that I understood they had body ringworm several months prior and claimed they no longer had it.
In Early March I noticed that my scalp was itchy on a small spot behind my right ear, but still on my scalp.
Concerned about the medication effects on my liver, I refused to go to a dermatologist and tried only antifungal shampoos such as Nizoral over the counter and Selsun Blue Medicated, also over the counter. Not to mention 1/6 water and bleach. Might have been a big mistake, although it did calm my symptoms of itch by a bit.
In May of 2008 I finally saw a dermatologist and prescribed Lamisil 250mg daily for 6 weeks and Ketoconazole along with a stronger 2% Nizoral.
When I completed my course in Early July 2008, the ring and redness completely disappeared, however, the itch on the ringworm spot remained, as well as another small rash (not ring) that developed about a month before I started treatment. This rash is almost directly on the back of my lower head, about 2-3 inches from the bottom hairline.
It is now August, and have since seen another dermatologist and he claims that I still must have fungus in the scalp, as the itch still remains, even 6 weeks after completing my Lamisil Course.
The new dermatologist prescribed Sporanox 100mg daily, and Clotrimazole along with Selsun Blue for 4 Weeks.
I have also read that sometimes fungal infections of the scalp can create complications such as bacterial staph infections that nest in the nostrils. Could it be that I no longer have fungus, yet perhaps a minor staph infection that lingers until I take the proper medication for that?
If someone here has suffered scalp ringworm and successfully treated it with Lamisil or Sporanox, please due tell. Also, if there was an after itch upon completing the antifungal course, that would not go away, please due tell if you managed to get rid of it.
As far as scalp bacterial infections, please also tell how you are able to self diagnose, and if not, what steps should be taken to have a dermatologist test your hair or skin to make sure if its fungal, staph or bacterial infection of the scalp.
Thank you all very much and I hope to hear from you soon.
