Big red spots from Differin

by goldngrl1611, Jul 01, 2008 08:41PM
Hi-
I have been on Differin for a little less than 2 weeks and stupidly I applied some benzoyl peroxide medication over a couple of the spots where I had blemishes after applying the thin layer of differin gel at night.  Currently I now have about 7 big red spots where this additional medication was applied, and it has been there for about 5 days.  The skin peels off on its own when I wash it over these spots, and I am not peeling or dry anywhere else on my skin.  However, after the skin peels and feels smooth, by the end of the day it will be dry again and a new layer will peel off.  At the sites of all the spots the skin is neither indented not raised, but is flat and in the same plane as my skin but the skin is so red.  I am very, very worried as to what to do about this and wondering if this will go away.  I discontinued the use of differin until the reaction subsides.  It doesn't look like acne hyper-pigmentation because as I noted the diameter is the area that the skin has peeled off of, but I'm not sure.  Is there anything I can do to help this heal other than wait it out and discontinue the topical use?  Also, please tell me if this will go away.  Thanks.

Hi,
Differin is a trade name for a medication for acne vulgaris made by Galderma Laboratories. Its active ingredient is adapalene.
It regulates  oil production and reduces  acne over a long period of time. It has both exfoliating and anti-inflammatory effects.
Some of the normal side effects of Differin includes(burning, scaling, dryness, and stinging)
Use Differin exactly as your doctor has prescribed it for you. Using more medicine or applying it more often than prescribed will not make it work any faster, and may increase side effects. Do not use this medication for longer than your doctor has prescribed.

Differin is usually applied once daily in the evening.

It si best that you stop using it until the reaction settles down. You can then get it examined before you start re-using the product again.
