'Bite' like swelling

by frambo, Dec 20, 2003 12:00AM
Hello,
I’m 42 years old out of shape an over weight and have never had any kind of allergy before….About 5 weeks ago at home in So. Fla. I had what I thought was a cold in my right eye (with no bite like sensation) that spread to my left eye it was very mild with slight swelling and a clear runny liquid. My right eye cleared up in a day or two, then while I was at home I felt like what I thought was a mosquito biting the right rear/top of my head the “bites” got very swollen and lasted a few days then cleared up, all was fine when a few days later my left eye and forehead got several of the same “bite” like itchy spots that got very swollen the more I rubbed them……I started to watch what I ate and avoided the nut’s and shellfish and aspirin I was eating/taking……everything cleared up and we traveled to Maine when after a few days I got another bite like spot in the corner of my eye that swelled up the next day like the others, that cleared up when about a week later…another spot on my left forehead and eye area with swelling around my left eye the “bites” are dime size itchy and slightly reddish and hot…other than the hives? I feel fine… any ideas? Sometimes I feel a weight? or pressure? in my sinuses but there’s no discharge of any kind?

Thank You!

I'm afraid I don't know.  Scattered spots like the ones you describe could be hives, I guess, or they could be bites, but the geographic change makes bites unlikely.  If they're hives, they'll go away on their own.  I suggest you show them to a doctor, or take a photo in case they aren't there when you go.  But food or other allergy seems very unlikely, since allergies don't look like what you're describing.

Best.
