Black dot on bottom lip

Hi,

I have a small black spot growing on the bottom of my lip. I have had it for about a year and a half now. I have smaller and fainter ones but were told that they were just stains from smoking. This one seems to be more like a tiny mole other people can hardly see it but i can and and it doesnt bother me but the thing i am concerned about is that it could be cancerous. I was on roacutanne for a while when i was younger and do smoke could any of those two things be the cause of this black dot appearing? I am very concerned about it and plan to see a dermotologist but will probably be on a waiting list till the end of the year!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
One possibility for your symptoms is oral melanotic macule. It is a small, sharply circumscribed, pigmented macule surrounded by normal-appearing skin.
You cannot remove them at home. Cryosurgery using liquid nitrogen and laser are the main treatment modalities. I would recommend a dermatologist’s consultation for this.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
