Blister on 30month old toddler

My daughter is 2 1/2 yrs old with ezcema (eczema) since she was 6 weeks old. 6 months ago she got an infection. There were small blisters on her hands for the first time. She received Keflex and acyclovir. Then acyclovir x6 months. She was off the antiviral meds for 2 weeks and now has a nickel size blister on one hand and various small blisters on a few fingers. Her pediatric dermatologist thinks it is ezcema (eczema) herpeticum. Will this ever go away? Is there any alternative treatment? How contagious is this? We have another appointment this week. I am beside myself in worry.

I agree with the dermatologist as it sounds like eczema herpeticum. It is commonly caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 or 2, but may also be caused by coxsackievirus virus. It is usually found in persons with eczema or atopic dermatitis. Treatment is only by antiviral drugs and so the doctor is on the right path of treatment.
