I agree with the dermatologist as it sounds like eczema herpeticum. It is commonly caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 or 2, but may also be caused by coxsackievirus virus. It is usually found in persons with eczema or atopic dermatitis. Treatment is only by antiviral drugs and so the doctor is on the right path of treatment.
