Breast Rash Whtie bumps

by korusgirl, Sep 26, 2002 12:00AM
Dr, Hi.  I think I have read all the mail on follicular problems but did not see folliculitis described as small white bumps. I don't know how else to explain them Mine are on the breasts in an area where there are no hairs!
This all started about 3 months ago. Initially rash developed underside, midline on both breasts but not on chest wall where I thought it would be from perspiration.  I have rather large breasts.  Right breast had a  pink large spot(1/2" round), left had one about half that size and the rest were a few quite small pink looking spots on each breast but the skin overall has small white bumps covering it. I don't know how else to explain it.  I have never had much itching, just tickly with some stabbing type pain occasionally. Some of the pink bumps get a white spot in  but none has ever erupted.  The first large spot on the right breast had three or four, what appeared to be heads of sort, but none burst.  Most of the original pink spots are still visible and I don't think any have disappeared but I realize the skin on the breast area is very delicate and it might take time. This is not an overall rash of pink spots, just here and there and willy nilly over a carpet of white bumps.

Condition currently has spread up to nipples recently (not on nipples yet) and outward but not toward midline. And my breasts are very pink with pink veins sort of poping out all over. Inflammation?  About ten days ago, I noticed my left breast, which was always the smaller, is getting bigger. Swollen, I guess.  I am very worried about this! Its now much bigger than my right breast! I called my GP and he ordered a mamo, although I had a normal mamo in March of this year.   Not much tickling anymore and no stabbing pains at all.

My GP initially said it is folliculitis and I've been on bactroban, and topical fungal meds plus amoxicillin, difulcan, doxicycline and right now I am  on doxicillin with topical erythromyacin. Nothing has helped, new ones pop up all the time
and my skin is covered underneath side with tny white bumps.
What do I have, Dr.?  I am worried it is cancer. Could it be. Because it is my breasts, I guess, and we woman are paranoid about them.  There is no nipple discharge, but my left breast is really getting large in the past ten days. I don't know what else to say.  Hope I didn't leave anything important out.    Thank you so much for your help.  Joyce

I honestly don't think you have anything to worry about, Joyce.  Little white bumps are usually small cysts.  I see them often on the trunk of men and women, especially if they once had acne.  I realize that you are saying they all just came, but perhaps they were there for a while and you overlooked them . . .

In any case, little white bumps are not a sign of cancer.  I don't think all the medications you're taking are likely to make a difference.

My advice is to see a dermatologist.  I'm quite sure that a single visit will set the matter straight and your mind at ease.

Take care.

Sorry Dr. but I just read my email and saw I made an error.  When I said the rash has crept up to the nipples, I meant to say auereolas.  And I spelt ,y current medicine wrong, its dicoxicill. And I forgot my age, which is important, its 60.  Thank you again, I am a wreck.

Nothing you've added makes me any more worried.  If you're a wreck, please get checked out by a dermatologist and put this behind you.

I have had these bumps on my nipples and the area around them for a long time The only way to describe them is they look like little warts the do not excreet anything from them. I was wondering if you could tell me what they ight be and if there is any way that i can get rid of them? I also developed a small(pea size) knot near the center of my chest that gets bigger somedays and then the size of a pea other days it has been there for  6 months and sometimes it is painful and you can see it with the naked eye Is that a possible cyst?
