About 12 years ago I had a hypospadiasHypospadias Hypospadias repair repair. During the healing process the sutures opened up on the underside of the penileCancer - penis shaft and the wound filled in with white scar tissue. The resulting scar tissue is a similar consistency to the surrounding normalNormal saline flush tissue, except that it is whiter than the surrounding skin and it contains no pigment. The scar is about a half inch wide near the glans, triangular in shape, and about an inch-and-a-half long. The normalNormal saline flush skin is fairFair skin cancer risks.
Over the years, brown spotsBirthmarks - pigmented Liver spots Measles, koplik spots - close-up Mongolian blue spots began appearing on the normal skin at the margin formed by the scar. There are about ten spots now. The largest spot is about one-quarter inch in diameter. The spots are not raised, and they appear similar to brown spots that might be observed on an older person's hands. They are fairly dark brown and have reached the point of being unnerving.
In addition, six spots have developed on the upper side of the glans. These spots are more like discolorations, and are not as dark as the spots along the underside of the shaft. These spots have reached the level where I cannot use a public restroom.
At this point I really want to have these spots removed. My questions focus around how to get the spots removed:
1. Is there any particular type of laser that might be most appropriate for removal of penile brown spots?
2. Is a dermatologist or a cosmetic doctor or some other kind of specialist more appropriate?
3. Are there questions that should be asked of the dermatologist before committing to his/her procedure?
4. Is laser removal likely to be successful on the dark brown shaft spots?
5. Is laser removal likely to be successful on the lighter brown glans spots?
6. Is it possible that the laser treatment can cause additional scarring or disfigurement?
7. Are there side effects that should be anticipated, such as swelling, time off from work for healing, etc.?
8. Can the removal be done in one procedure?
9. Are there different laser intensities, and how is the intensity determined so that the procedure is successful?
I really appreciate any advice you might be able to provide.
