Brown skin around wound, is it pigmentation?

my wound is healing (it is closed and ok but) one day the skin around it got brownish. It is like this for more than a week now. My dermatologist will be back in town after a month. I haven't exposed it to the sun being afraid not to get pigmentation. It looks like pigmentation to me - is this pigmentation or is it something else? More important is this permanent :( I'm very afraid that brown spot will stay forever plus I can't tan now coz of the wound and won't be able for like the whole summer. Somewhere I read that when you hurt the skin the melanocits make such pigmentation and they are permanent. But the skin around the wound was never hurt,it was just slightly red some time ago, why it became such :( please tell me will it go away
