Keloids are firm, rubbery lesions or shiny, fibrous nodules, and can vary from pink to flesh-colored or red to dark brown in color and usually turn unsightly. They sometimes get infected and tend to be itchy, tender, or even painful to the touch. If the keloid becomes infected, it may ulcerate.
I suggest that your friend consults a dermatologist who can determine the cause and prescribe appropriate treatment for it.
Cortisone injections (intralesional), surgery, laser, cryotherapy, interferons and fluorouracil( a chemotherapeutic agent) are used for the treatment of keloids.
It is difficult to exactly say as to what the lesion is but from the appearance it appears to be a keloid scar. Keloids occur in skin after surgical incisions, traumatic wounds, vaccination sites, burn injuries. Keloids often run in families. They most often on the chest, back, shoulders, and earlobes.
