Bug bite

I was bit by some sort of insect 6 days ago. At first it looked like a small irritated pimple but then progressed to a much larger bump and eventually became an inflamed red circle, and the center is white and looks like tissue. It was very painful until wednesday and then seemed to improve a little but it is now even more painful than before. Earlier in the week I had a fever and felt generally sick but I think that could be just a regular cold because I also have a bad cough and congestion. I just wanted to check if I should be concerned about the bite? I was looking at spider bites online and it resembles a brown recluse spider bite, but I was asleep when it happened so I never saw it.

Hello,
For the bug bite as you are not sure whether it was due to a spider bite, so it needs to be evaluated. Till then apply some cold compresses and then apply calamine lotion. It helps in soothing the skin.
You can take some antihistaminic like Benadryl or Claritin. Although the bite may be itchy, avoid scratching it because you may damage the skin, and allow bacteria to get in, leading to infection. Also steroids may be needed which are available under prescription.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Hi, is it a blister like eruption?  My spider bit was like that and actually resembled shingles.  I'd have it looked at.  If it turns bright red and purple black and blue, run.  I wouldn't take a chance at all.
