Bump on ear

Every once in a while, my ear will become red, warm and very itchy for about a day.  Afterwards, a small hardened area usually on the bottom of the earlobe will appear that is itchy (but significantly less) to the touch.  It is somewhat sensitive and seems to go away after awhile, maybe a week or so.  This happens every several months.  I have my ears pierced, and will get a small infection every so often.  Any ideas?

I have recently discovered some of my allergies, so this is a definite possibility! Next time it happens, I will try to be more aware of what I had been doing previously.  Thank you!

Sounds like an allergy to me. I get very swollen itchy ears from allergy sometimes and the lump sounds like a whelt or fluid. The tricky thing is to source the allergy, maybe a food, or a dust or pollen or from a viral infection. Or you could be allergic to a metal in your earring.

Take care.
