Bump on scalp behind ear

by ctorres7, Mar 22, 2005 12:00AM
Dear Dr. and forum, I currently don't have insurance and not much money so I hope for some help. About 5 days ago I happened to touch the skin right behind my left ear. Not on the ear but onthe part of the head (right before hairline)it's where you start feeling the hard part of the skull inbetween hairline and back of ear that connects to skull.About middle of earline (though not on ear). I felt a small bump the size of a medium pimple. At first I hoped it was a pimple but as of yet there is no head. I also considered a boil but I've had a polynidal cyst on my backside and a boil-like thing on my privates and it seems like their was alot of pain with a quick onset. Sofar this one doesn't hurt too much until I push on it (medium to gentle pushing)I can't tell if it hurts because it does really hurt or if I caused more sensitivity by touching it trying to figure out what it is. To me when I touch it it almost feels like the bone just got bumpier or thicker. Yet I'm hoping it's not a clot or anuerism. I don't know if this means anything but I do'nt see a vein running through it or over it. Could it be a calcium deposit,or somethings I've read on this site like lipoma or pilar cyst.I know you haven't examined me but please give it a go. Remember it has no head and does not hurt alot as of yet.It feels harder underneath the skin than a pimple almost like the bone of the skull in that area has thickened a little in shape of medium to large pimple. I have not been able to find anything about this anywhere on net.I feel that I would have felt this bump if I'd had it all along. I feel along the right side of my head in this same area and it feels (smooth) so I know the side with the bump is different. I'm hoping and praying it's nothing serious as I can't get to a doctor any time soon. When I do go it's hard to get them to take their time and run tests you feel would be practical. With all due respect to you doc!I guess that's why I went long on this description. I know you can't say for sure what it is but I'm worried it might be the big C or anuerism what signs if anything different from these would there be.How long should one go before getting it checked out? I might be able to go in two and a half months if insurance kicks in. Thankyou doctor and everyone.God Bless

It's probably a lymph gland you got from a cold.  Leave it alone and it will go away.  Aneurysms are inside the head.  Cancer isn't even a remote possibility.  If you can still feel it in 6 months, or if it gets bigger and more painful, show a doctor then.

Best.
