Bump on upper eyelid

I applied hot compress on it - someone recommended hot teabag and I think the bump is shrinking.  What will be the damage to my eye if I continue applying hot teabag for a long time?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,

This bump can be a stye or a chalazion. A stye is an infection of the sebaceous glands at the base of the eyelashes and are generally caused by a Staphylococcus aureus bacteria infection.

A chalazion is a cyst in the eyelid that is caused by inflammation of a blocked meibomian gland, usually on the upper eyelid. Chalazions differ from styes in that they are usually painless apart from the tenderness caused when they swell up, and in size (chalazia tend to be larger than styes).

Apply hot wet compresses on the swelling and consult an ophthalmologist for topical or systemic antibiotics prescription. If it is a chalazion, then it may need scrapping.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

i had one and so did my son its called a chalazion eyelid cyst. I tried the  hot compressed towel for 2 weeks on both of us and never went it away it got harder. It doesn't hurt but you do have to have it surgically removed. Best of luck
