My 6 yr old daughter has had little bumps, that are light red and ooze/pop like a pimple, on the backs of her upper arms since she was 2 yrs old. They normally get slightly less visable in the winter but never completely go away. They tend to get a lot worse in the summer, all the skin covered in those bumps turns like a blue/purplish color
and the bumps get bright red but at that point they do not pop like pimples would. Also, a few months ago, she started getting these clear/skin colored bumps, it started out with 2 on the outside of her knee
, and then last week she was complaining of her bottom hurting, and thats when I noticed she had a patch of them on her butt cheek and one of them was a darker color and the skin around them seemed to be almost a tan color! The only family history in the skin department is normal acne problems and slight excema. What is happening to my daughters skin?
Hello,
The bumps on her arms can be due to folliculitis, keratosis pilaris or elastocytic granuloma but for these bumps which are appearing randomly, the possibility of molluscum contagious and other viral infections need to be ruled out. It presents as multiple, small, dome-shaped papules, often with a central depression or plug.
It generally affects children and typically occurs in the 2-5 age group.Treatment includes physical destruction or manual extrusion of the lesions, cryotherapy, and curettage.
Please discuss this possibility with a pediatrician.
