Burnin Lips and Discoloration

Dear Doctor,

Recently my lips have been feeling quite abnormal. I have been very dry and have had a burning  feeling in them for about 3 weeks after being on vacation in florida. I've tried using chapsticks and lip balm to cure the problem but nothing seems to work. In addition the color on my top lips has turned very light in pigmentation, almost a white pink color across my lips and where my two lips join. I have recently performed oral sex to a girl and I am wondering if this has anything to do with my lip problems. I see no red, blistering, or tenderness, and I am wondering what is going on with my body.

Thank you for your time and understanding,
Jay

Hello Jay
You may want to go to the page called (my lips)

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/428182

Take a look of some of the posts and see if you have any symptoms as noted on that page.
I think I caught something from a women that I had oral sex with also.
The condition became apparent about a month after we had sex.
I have been trying to find out what i have. but no luck so far.

Hi,

This may be due to the unprotected encounter that you mention in your post. In fact, there are two conditions that come to mind instantly - Herpes Simplex and candidiasis .
You may find more information on these at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herpes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candidiasis

You need to drink plenty of water and also keep your lips well moisturized. Apply a medicated lip balm with a sunscreen to avoid damage due to the sun.

If your lesions still persist, it would be best to see a skin specialist for a confirmed diagnosis and to rule out any other cause of the spot.

Are you allergic to any substances? What symptoms do you have other than the lip lesion? What is your age? Do you smoke?

Let us know if you have any other doubts and also about what the specialist advises.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
