Burning Penis/Scrotum - Turned Brown

I am a 40 year old Male, in excellent health.

6 months ago - 1 inch above anus - dry/scaly brown mark on both cheeks, each size of a quarter

2 months ago - doctor said it was a "fungus" prescribed Lamisil

4 weeks of Lamisil did nothing....at same time I kept the area dry, showered twice a day.

then same doctor prescribed "Hyrdocortisone 2.5% TCD"

1 week of that did nothing.

Another Doctor prescribed "Ketoconazole 2% ", took for 1 week....nothing

Finally saw a Dermatologist....he barely looked at it and said its not a Fungus and told me to use "Kerasal" to remove brown patch....said it was from friction.

***Now the BIGGER Problem:***

To help the "Brown patch" between my buttocks...I started to wear Boxers instead of briefs.

I shaved my scrotum and base of the penis (which I have done many times before) and since noticed a irritation when wearing the Boxers. (as the hairs started to grow back)

One stupid thing that I did was clip off a "skin-tag the size of a small pea" that was barely hanging-on near the
scrotum. I appied isopropyl and anti-infection cream and it has healed.

Then:

5 days ago I noticed a burning sensation in my groin...when I got home my Penis and Scrotum where Burning it all turned Reddish/Brown. (I am very fair skinned and the color is EXTREMELY noticable.)
Where the skin-tag was near the edge of the scrotum is normal in color and Not red/brown.

I applied the 2.5% Hydrocortisone 3 times then stopped.


I used "Gold Bond Powder" to help keep the area dry and have stopped for fear that this may have caused the burning and color change.

It does NOT hurt when I urinate, there are NO blisters, It is NOT a STD since I have not have sex in 5 years (I have never had Herpes etc.) The skin texture on both the penis/scrotum feel normal.

So I went to another Doctor(not a dermatologist).

He didn't have an idea what it could be and could not understand why it affected only my Penis and Scrotum....so he ordered Blood/urine tests, EKG  (still waiting
for the results). He also said to use NO Medications.

Since then I changed back to "Briefs" and the Burning and irratation has subsided.

Please don't say this is a normal color because it is definetly not.


PLEASE HELP me !!! This is causing me an enormous amount of STRESS !!!

And how long will it take for the color to return to normal (I am very fair skinned) ?

It may not be a normal color, but it certainly isn't an STD either.  Perhaps it is pigment change from irritation.  What you need to relieve your stress is to stop worrying about it, treating it, photographing it, and researching it, and getting s kin doctor to look at you and make a definitive diagnosis.  It may take several weeks or even a few months for the color to return to normal, but if you don't aggravate it with medications (unless your doctor determines you need some), it should heal just fine.  Meantime, please use only mild soap, bland moisturizer, and benign neglect.

The pictures look like it might be eczema. Does it also itch and then burn after you scratch. If it also flakes I would be willing to bet that is what the problem is.

Please let me know.

I don't think it is eczema....cause it does not itch and I have never scratched it.
