Burning sensation on lips

by SS, Oct 11, 2000 12:00AM
Hi Doctor,
I have been having burning sensations at the corners of my mouth on the lower lips more so one the left side. This has been going on for about 6-8 weeks. There isnt any sign of fever blisters just some occasional very minor chapping.I have had 2 what I think might have been fever blisters my entire life,30 years. The fever blisters I have had dont burn, drain or scab over. There is just a slightly raised area, looks a little swolen.
Any idea on whats going on with me????

Thanks for your help

Scott

To be frank, Scott, I doubt that what you have are herpes fever blisters, which invariably blister and scab.  If you get a burning sensation with no visible change in the lip or skin, you are probably suffering not from fever blisters but from thinking too much about fever blisters.  You can't transmit what you can't see.  If you see something, arrange to show it to a doctor when the lesion is fresh, so he or she can diagnose it more definitively.

Best.
