Can Herpes Simplex II blisters occur twice?

by Twice?, Dec 19, 2006 12:00AM
3 days ago (12/17/06), I was cleaning myself in the shower and felt a bump on my clitoral hood.  I examined it and it just appeared to be a bump - no blister or pus or anything of that nature.  The next morning (12/18/06), I noticed that where the bump had been there was now a tiny cluster of what looked like white-head pimples.  I did not touch these or try to pop them or anything.  I called my doctor immediately to schedule an appointment for the next day.  However, when I returned home that evening, the spots were gone but the area was tender.  Also, it looked like a very thick, yellowish fluid had come out of the bumps.  I saw my doctor today (12/19/06) and he did a swab and said he would culture for HSVII, though he said it didn't necessarily look like that.  Remember, though:  The bumps were not present when he examined me.  He also said that I had a discharge (not foul smelling) and that my white blood cell count was elevated, which he felt could be a sign of Vaginitis.  However, I don't have any itching or burning.  Later today, I noticed 2 white bumps like the ones that were there yesterday and my question is this:  Is it possible for HPVII blisters to break open and then reform in the exact same place within less that 24 hours?  I haven't had any of the flu-like symptoms so frequently described and, really, very little pain.  I go back to my doctor for the results on 12/29/06 but was hoping for a little piece of mind in the interim.

I had a similar bump about 2 years ago and called for an appointment with a different doctor.  Again, by the time I got there the next day, the bump was basically gone.  They did a swab anyway but it came back negative.  However, as I said before, the bump was not really present.

So, any advise or input you may have regarding this will be tremendously appreciated.

Thank you.

It doesn't sound like herpes.  It sounds like vaginitis.  Among many other reasons, herpes blisters hang around for several days before departing; they don't go away and come back a day later.

The culture will likely be negative.  Ask your doctor whether any further testing (such as blood testing) even needs to be considered.

Take care.

To: anyone please help
excuse the length... over the summer i was in puerto rico, i noticed a pronounced stinging sensation on my penis-  closer inspection i saw some faint white spots and also noted that the skin had begun to peel- this kind of freaked me out but improved  in 3-4 days. upon returning home, i began to become concerned about herpes- i had not had any sexual contact in 2 months (last was protected). has herpeselect test done, negative for HSV-2, + for HSV-1. time passed, my penis became increasingly irritated, and i  noticed strange flatish lightly raised opaque whiteish areas under my foreskin. i went to a urologist who noted i had a band of discoloration under my foreskin- i had reccurent pain. i believe he diagnosed lichen sclerosis/lichen planus (cant recall but know it included lichen).prescribed me nystatin, an anti-fungal. this seemed to help a bit, but i soon was feeling the same pain and the flat whitish lesions remained. went back, he said to apply moisturizer and that it was simply irritated (masturbation?). this didnt  help either at times the pain was quite pronounced and almost constant. concern: i had breif unprotected genital apposition with a female 1 month ago- 2 weeks later i had rather irritating unprotected sex with another girl who claimed to be a virgin (it certainly seemed that way so i believe her), which only worsened my conditon. about 4 days after this 2nd fling, i had intense pain on the same side of penis- next to whiteish lesion is small burning red spot (sore?) under head....just 1 but quite painful- still there 15 days later-no blisters or bumps...is this herpes? help!

If you want the doctor's opinion, you have to post your own question, and pay the price. You can't just hi-jack someone else's posting as the doc won't reply. However, you may get some information from other posters.

Thank you.  I was wondering what was going on.  I hope the doctor will still respond to my question...

Thank you very much, Dr. Rockoff.  I didn't realize you had already responded when I sent my last post.

Again, I really appreciate the information.
