Can Maxide cause drug induced lupus?

by Bushkey, Jun 08, 2001 12:00AM
Good morning, I was on Maxide for many years, recently I was switched to Diovan.  During the time I was on Maxide, I was diagnosed with Lupus...  Since I stopped the drug, my skin and joints seem to be changing for the better.  Can Maxide cause this reaction?  Do the side effects stay with someone even after the drug is stopped....  Thanks so much

The package insert says lupus "has been reported," but it's hard to know what that means.  I would ask the doctor who diagnosed you his or her opinion.  If it gets better off the drug and stays that way, that would be crcumstantial evidence that the drug was a factor.

Best.
